The Battle of Birth

"It's been along time..
Shouldnta left you.
Without a DOPE BEAT to step to."

=*]

And so Im "back on the scene.
Crispy and clean,
you can try but then why-
Cause you can't intervene."

=P

I've been around town and back. Up and down, high (hiiiiigh) and low. =[

But I've learned so much. And I'm ready to share my journey. Not that it's done! OOOooooh NO. It's just started.

So I'll start off with a poem. Foreplay.

Next post will be photos of recent artwork. Or maybe I'll stick it on the bottom of the page. You never knoooow.

_*The Battle of Birth*_

Every night I've made it home
full of quotes and plans
and lessons learned
Moments mad explosive in my mind.

My fingers ache to make the best of my time.
Make pure the milk from these breasts of mine.
Make sure my art isn't stillborn.

The images of queens are still adorned.
My eyes gazing from the light at humanity not still torn.
Invisible cloaks of the soul aren't still worn.

Because with blindness,
one can not bring forth life.
All you'd see would be darkness.
And thats just wackness...

Destruction of a big bang,
a hymn sang
and an infinite land
is silent, deadly, and close.

The air is art is weapon.
The packed earth the beat in a poets voice.

High on hope. High, so dope.

But nope I'm no poet, I just wanna let you know
that my heart stops
and my stomach drops at thoughts of possibilities.

Viewing forks in our paths
Knives in our backs
Lies spooned in our mouths
Defiant devils and angels together in the shade.

Their dreams are bestselling bedtime stories.

We are backwards with wisdom
Perpetual and involuntary

Any day now, we'll wake up on the right side of the bed
with no complaint
no pause, Just Go.

Move and pray.

Let the children play.
Let the CHILDREN play.

And let us create new days.
Because seriously?
Fuck Newsday.
Out lights are too bright black brown white to bless the pages of epic fail.

News is, days are meant to be filled with ideas realized
plans materialized before our eyes.

Triumphant young seeds
Kicking and screaming
dark skylarks
eyes wide open

The battle of birth.

Alright. It's late. Pics of art will be in my next post.

How are you?

I'm doing very well... I've been listening to alot of music. As usual. Lots of new and old.

(Re) connecting with family. Working very hard at the art supply store. Planning lots of art projects and activist movements.

Forward... Forward.

Here are some pictures I managed to take with my fathers professional camera. ^__^ Yea. Pictures are not so professional. Haha.

Paintings. There are (OF COURSE) more to come. There is ALWAYS one (or two) in progress.

I create altered books. Palimsest.

Altered Book #1. (Complete.)

Altered Book #2. (Incomplete.)

I'll make some time, when time permits, to spend quality time with the big, fun camera (hopefully I get better with it...) and post some pictures of the most recently altered pages of Book #2.

In the MeanTime.

In BetweenTime.

Please enjoy this music...

The Picket Line and the The Parade

"I'm not your fantasy girl. I'm not your fantasy love.
I'm not your fantasy flesh that fits you like a tight glove.
I know I've been away so long, you've loved me only in your dreams.
Lucky for you, I do much better in real live flesh."

With that, I wanna say "hey watsup, how are you??" I hope you've been wondering how I am.

I've been aroooound. On alot of emotional roller-coasters and long ass lines with the occasional funnel cake and great ride or two. I feel upside down and connected at the same time. Like holding a hand in the midst of fainting... Intense all the fucking time. 0_o

Sometimes I feel like gravity is getting the best of me.. And sometimes I feel like I can fly. Feel me?...

I took mad pictures of my art a couple weeks ago. And I've been writing alot of poetry... I made a few more pages in my altered book.

But, what I need to do is get to my canvas... Sigh. I'll get to it. Or rather... It'll get to me. *deep breath and EXHALE, trust the spirit...*

*About me:*

I've noticed alot of aggressive things about me (sexually, politically, emotionally).

It's the good part of being single. I'm honestly getting to know myself and I say... I'm quite interesting. Haha... I do love myself though. The hardest part is accepting my flaws. I really don't like messing up. Nobody does yea yea yea I know... But this is my time to reflect:: bear with me!

And then again, I'm getting more comfortable with my femininity and coming to the conclusion that it is indeed a deep inner strength to be so sensitive and not have developed a brick wall.

I'd like to always make sure I can REACH UP AND REACH OUT as well as be REACHED.

Feel that??.... =)

I am a militant activist in bloom, y'all. Just saying. And my art will span posters and stickers and t-shirts and shit all over the city sooon. Wtf man. Gotta get this world moving. MOVE. Motivate... I'm scared of what will happen if we don't wake up.

*My Pleasure to Meet You*

You are someone who loves me
With the same intensity with which I love you.
You curl into my embrace and love the way I smell.

Like how you grab my hand.
Love that It's just... *shrug*
Because...

I am satisfied when you walk into the room.
I am satisfied when you sit next to me.
I am satisfied when you smile at me.

I am elated when we laugh together.
Inflated with good things happening and better things to come.

Like how happy I will be when the wave of birth washes over this city
and all out love is realized
and when I'm reacquainted with the powers that be.

There has always been this balance, this fight
This fight for balance between love personal and love universal..
Love eternal.
For the hand to hold and the hand that holds
the picket sign on the picket line.
But I want both at the same time.

We CAN hold both. And move forward.
Move ahead like we're meant to.
We're made to move like we're meant to.
Nothing less and much much more.

When we hit the floor fleeing fire,
We'll know the touch of grace
and hope
and strength.
We'll know how to dance in combat to the happy devil of doubt.

I believe in the havoc we wreak.

Put me to sleep with your lips
And your mind
We'll pray together with our eyes
that envision songs of better tomorrows.

My Mommy Poem

Married single momma with five children and no recollection of how holy your scars are. Ye Yo you are are the universe with the world in your breast and sun in your eyes. Yes you get lonely but No search for what is without can surpass what is within.
Family Secrets and the Beginning of Forgiveness

Sometimes I kick my own ankles and
Trip on my shoelaces,
bruise and scratch my shins
tryna count the paces it will take for me to win.

Because I'm made up of things like
parks with swing sets
and when mommy let me ride my bike in the street.
Not on the side walk
with all the other kids,

Cuz it was just that cool to be in the street.

Most of the times I looked out into the street
lights on my porch
from the windows that I think were beautiful
because they look like Sankofa from the side.

But rules were to shut the blinds that night
We always forgot to open them in the morning...

Some rules were meant to be broken
like no eating in the bedrooms.
So I left a bag of chips on my sheets
Only for 10 minutes and I thought that beds gave birth to ants that day.
I found a hill 2 inches tall,
We were all were hungry I suppose.

I grabbed the bottle of bleach,
sprayed my pillow
staining Mickey with cotton white cheeks.

Not a word left my mouth about the discovery
Silence begets
silence can't save you from all harm and danger

So yes,
We heard the exclamations of fed-up-ness and domestic violence-ness,
homegrown pain.
These fists that exist in our hearts and minds
Not only hurt you
But hurt us too
Like primary encouragement
for a pot on the head
or a hot spoon
recovering & transforming
& a dripping red mouth
shut against your common law lover.

I've learned that it's against common law to choose wisely.

I still look from those beautiful bars
that look like Sankofa from the side.
Sometimes bars and chains
and tears and pain
become your source of pride.

I wish to say this to those
who gave me something to hide.

Who should have said it before
My double digit parade came
Leading the way to the death of the charade.

I need you, you need me.
We're all a part of God's body.
Stand with me, agree with me.
We're all a part of God's body.
It is her will that every need be supplied.
You are important to me, I need you to survive.

I pray for you , you pray for me.
I love you, I need you to survive.
I won't harm you with words from my mouth.
I love you, I need you to survive.
